About Us

One World, One Chance, Be Gentle.

Murco Recycling Enterprises is a family-run, woman-owned business that helps homeowners, builders, and remodelers find new homes for valuable building materials. Since 1989, we’ve made it easier to recover what’s worth keeping before a renovation or tear down begins.

Kitchens are our specialty, but we also work with appliances, bathroom fixtures, lighting, doors, windows, millwork, stone, and other reusable materials. These are often the very things a homeowner has paid to remove and dispose of. We look at them differently: What can be sold? What could be donated? And what will it take to get it out responsibly?

Our work starts with an assessment. From there, we document the materials, identify resale or donation opportunities, and coordinate the details—from marketing and buyers to removal and pickup. Every project is different, so we recommend a practical plan based on the materials, their condition, and the renovation schedule.

For homeowners, resale can turn outgoing materials into money. For builders and remodelers, Murco offers one point of contact to help manage materials that might otherwise be headed for a dumpster. When donation makes more sense, we can help coordinate that process, too.

For nearly four decades, our mission has stayed the same: make recycling the easy choice when good materials still have life in them. Before you throw it away, let us take a look.

FOUNDER | JODI MURPHY

As a leading expert in building waste diversion, Jodi has helped redistribute thousands of tons of high-end materials from homes headed for the landfill. Her iconic humor and energy make live-auctions a thrill, and her tack-sharp wit and can-do vibe have become the foundation of Murco’s positive attitude.
Jodi had earned industry-wide recognition throughout her 26 years in the business, including an induction into the National Environmental Hall of Fame in 2008. She was the host and star of the television show “Total Wrecklamation,” (2008) a series about Murco’s recycling efforts. When Jodi’s not at the helm of Murco auctions, she lends her auctioneering skills to many charity benefits in the Chicagoland area.

Our Story

From our first fixer-upper to The Environmental Hall of Fame, we're devoted to doing our part for the planet.

• 1989

Jodi founds Murco. She is a new homeowner & when a neighbor’s historic house is being demolished next door she fixes up her fixer-upper with the materials.

• 1996

Murco wins the Outstanding Recycler Recognition from the Illinois Recycling Association.

• 1999

Murco honored with Governors Pollution Prevention Award.

• 2008

Jodi is inducted into the National Environmental Hall of Fame

• 2009

Planet Green Network films the series “Total Wrecklamation” starring Jodi. They chronicle the fast-paced action during on-site auctions and a whole new audience is hooked on recycling, Murco, and the Queen of Green herself, Jodi Murphy.

• 2010

Murco is the recipient of the Outstanding Special Recycling Program Award from the Illinois Recycling Association.

• TODAY

Jodi is still living in the same fixer-upper house that inspired her business in 1989. But these days, it’s been “fixed up” many times over. All with reused materials, of course.
